Chico Outlaws News Release

CHICO- The Outlaws and Fielders opened up their second series of the week. After the Outlaws took two of three from the Fielders, neither team wanted to lose game one Thursday night. The game was a marathon, thirteen inning affair.

The Lake County Fielders got off to a hot start against Outlaws' starter Jonny Bravo. A triple to deep right-center field off the bat of Fielders shortstop Rex Rundgren would set up the scoring. After a Lino Garcia strikeout, slugger Argelis Nunez came up to bat with an opportunity to plate the first run of the game. He did just that; poking a liner to the center field to easily score Rundgren from third and put the Fielders up 1-0.

The Outlaws would respond in the bottom of the fifth inning. Jay Pecci and Bobby Hill got on base with a single and a hit-by-pitch. With only one out, Jake Rife lined an RBI single to left to score Pecci. A Chris Lubanski walk would load the bases for Al Quintana who would hit a sacrifice fly to left field to pick up his 26th RBI of the year. The next batter, Adam Buschini, would plate Rife with a single to right and put the Outlaws on top 3-1.

In the top of the next inning, the Fielders would tie the score with one swing of the bat. With Argelis Nunez leading off the inning with a single, C.J. Ziegler hit a moonshot to straight center to pick up his twelfth home run of the season and tie the score at three.

The teams would continue alternating runs in the sixth and seventh innings. Chico added a single run in the bottom of the sixth. After a Brian McFall double, newcomer Will Wright, in his first game with the Outlaws, came through in a clutch situation with an RBI single to score McFall and give the Outlaws a temporary one run lead. Just a half inning later, the Fielders would tie the score at four apiece with a single by Patrick Brooks and some shoddy fielding by the Outlaws. Despite striking out the side, Travis Kane would ultimately give up an unearned run on an errant pickoff throw that allowed Brooks to get to third and he would score on a passed ball. The next two innings would be more of the same for the two teams, as each would add single runs including a game-tying home run by Nunez in the top of the ninth.

The Outlaws would have the final say in this battle of a game that tested the resiliency of both teams. After the Fielders came back to tie the game three separate times and push across the go-ahead run in the top of the 13th, the Outlaws would deliver the final blow in walk-off fashion. With the bases loaded and only one out, Adam Buschini lined a ball to center and the final two runs would come across the plate giving the Outlaws the win in their first extra inning game.
