
Eight-Run Eighth Propels WhiteWings Past Roadrunners

HARLINGEN - The Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings send 11 batters to the plate while scoring eight runs in the sixth inning to come from behind for the second night in a row to beat the Edinburg Roadrunners 8-4 on Friday at Harlingen Field.
The WhiteWings (19-16) are now 10-2 against the Roadrunners (15-20) this season.
Toro Trevino (2-1) held the WhiteWings to two singles over the first five innings while throwing 40-of-47 pitches for strikes. He retired seven straight batters while entering the sixth inning holding a 4-0 lead. Brandon Decker, Francisco Santana and Wilmer Pino led off the inning with singles to load the bases. David Peralta walked to force-in a run. One out later, Gerardo Avila hit an RBI-single. One out after that, Jonathan Fernandez hit a two-run single to tie the game, Gabriel Ortiz hit a three-run home run to give the WhiteWings the lead and Decker homered to cap the inning.
Decker finished 3-for-3 with two runs scored and one driven in.
WhiteWings starter Chase Davenport (3-2) retired the first seven batters he faced, but after falling behind R.J. Harris 3-1, Davenport allowed his first hit, Harris' second home run of the season. Back-to-back doubles by Brandon Wilkerson and C.J. Beatty followed to make it 2-0 Roadrunners.
Osiel Flores scored on a passed ball in the fourth to make it 3-0.
Gabe Memmert hit a two-out RBI-single in the fifth to make it 4-0.
That was it against Davenport, who allowed five hits and one walk while striking out two in seven innings.
The WhiteWings and Roadrunners complete this five-game series on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. The WhiteWings will auction off their game-worn jerseys after the game with all proceeds going to the Harlingen-Cameron County office of Big Brothers-Big Sisters of South Texas. The WhiteWings will be wearing special uniforms, courtesy of Local's Lounge. These Patriotic Red, White and Blue uniforms incorporate a United States Flag design celebrating our great nation. Right-hander Alexander Concepcion (3-3, 9.00) is expected to face right-hander Jorge Quintero (2-3, 7.36). Gates open at 6:05.
