El Paso Diablos News Release

The El Paso Diablos demolished the second place Shreveport Sports 19-8 on Tuesday night from Cohen Stadium.

El Paso jumped out to a huge lead in the bottom of the first. The Diablos plated six runners off of seven base hits. Jordan Belcher and Evan Conley had RBI doubles in the frame as El Paso took a 6-0 lead.

Shreveport answered right back, scoring seven runs in the top of the second against Josh Neitz. Justin Humphries had a two-RBI double. The seven runs scored by Shreveport was the most runs a team has scored against El Paso this year in one inning.

El Paso would never look back in the contest. The Diablos scored 13 unanswered runs from the bottom of the second to the sixth inning. Matt Kent hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the third. Josh Neitz would also settle down for El Paso as he tossed four scoreless innings yielding only five base hits after the rough second inning.

The Diablos bullpen did a solid job as Justin Knoff and Dallas Strankman threw the games last three innings allowing just one run off of a combined four base hits with four combined strikeouts.

The Diablos 19 runs sets the single-season record for runs in a game. Juan Camacho (6-6, 3 RBI) became the first Diablo to pick up six-base hits in a game this season. Jorge Alvarez went 3-6 with 3 runs. The Diablos 11 run margin of victory is the highest of the year.

El Paso's magic number is down to three with six games left to play. If the Diablos win the next two games over Shreveport they will clinch the Southern Division first half title!

Four-time World Heavyweight Boxing Champion Evander Holyfield made an appearance and sparked the team with a pre-game speech. Holyfield also suited up and helped coach the Diablos from the dug out.

Josh Neitz (4-3) gets the victory as he threw six innings allowing six earned runs off of 14 base hits with no walks and four strikeouts.

T.J Hendricks (2-5) gets the loss as he threw one and a third innings allowing nine earned runs off of 10 hits with one walk and no strikeouts.

The Diablos will take on Shreveport in the second game of the series on Wednesday night at 7:05 PM. Robbie Wachman will throw against Derek Cunnigham. The game will be broadcast live at www.diablos.com with Jon Barr on the call.
