ST. PAUL, MN (June 26, 2007) - The St. Paul Saints played their first extra inning ballgame of the season and it took 12 innings, but they defeated the Pensacola Pelicans 3-2 on Tuesday afternoon for their eighth straight victory in front of 6,718 at Midway Stadium.

The Saints offense was stifled most of the afternoon, but the Saints made the plays when they had too. With the Saints trailing 2-0 in the fifth Ben Thomas hit his second homer of the season, a two-run shot over the right field wall to tie the game at two.

Neither team could get much going in the late innings and Brent Krause came up with one of the big defensive plays of the afternoon. With two outs in the eighth inning Cesar Aranguran was thrown out at third by Krause on a single to right and end the rally. It was the second time during the afternoon Krause threw out a runner.

The Saints won it in the 12th as Scooter Jordan led off with a single to center. Thomas sacrificed him to second. As Oscar Montero was intentionally walking Krause he threw the ball over the head of his catcher allowing Jordan to go to third. After Krause was intentionally walked he stole second, forcing the Pelicans to intentionally walk Marcel Longmire. Brain Sprout singled to left-center off of Chris Thompson for the game winning RBI.

For the first time since June 17 the Saints didn't collect double digits in hits, but Longmire did extend his hitting streak to 17 games by going 2-5.

The same two teams meet Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. The Saints send LHP Adam Brandenburg (3-1, 3.92) to the hill against Pelicans lefty Todd Androsca (3-3, 4.73). The game can be seen on the Saints Cable Network and listened to on KBGY 107.5 FM. It is Super Heroes Night presented by Noodles and Company.
