Manchester Monarchs News Release

MANCHESTER, NH – Jeff Eisenberg, President of the Manchester Monarchs, on Friday was named the winner of the James C. Hendy Award, given annually to the Executive of the Year in the American Hockey League. The announcement, made by AHL President and CEO David Andrews, came at the conclusion of the league's annual Board of Governors meeting on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.

Under the direction and leadership of Eisenberg, the Monarchs have emerged as one of the premier franchises in all of minor professional sports. While serving as the primary affiliate of the NHL's Los Angeles Kings, the Monarchs finished with the top attendance average in all of North American minor pro hockey in 2003-04, outdrawing 97 other teams with an average of 9,141 fans per game. In June, the Monarchs also received an honorable mention in the 2004 PRISM Awards in recognition of their outstanding achievement in the area of community relations. The PRISM Awards (Professionalism, Results and Innovation in Sport Management) are sponsored by the Sports Business Daily and presented annually to franchises at both the major and minor league levels that demonstrate excellence in five categories of sport management: strategic mission, innovative marketing, community relations, customer service and employee relations. The University of Massachusetts Department of Sport Management presents the awards.

Giving back to the community has been a central theme of the Monarchs during Eisenberg's tenure with the club. Thanks to the Monarchs Care Foundation, the organization's charitable arm, the Monarchs have distributed $456,579 in cash grants to the greater Manchester region over the past three years. Just last year alone, the Monarchs made donations of cash, merchandise or tickets to 322 organizations in the Manchester region and across the state.

Eisenberg is also personally involved in several community organizations. The 47-year-old native of Memphis, Tennessee, is a board member of the Catholic Medical Center and chairman of the Community Phase of their current capital campaign. He is also a board Vice President for the Daniel Webster Council of the Boy Scouts of America, a board member of the New Hampshire Legends of Hockey, an adjunct professor and an advisory board member of the Sport Management Program at Southern New Hampshire University and co-chair of the Economic Development Day for the Chamber's Leadership Manchester program.

The James C. Hendy Award is named for the late Jim Hendy, a Hockey Hall of Famer and long-time statistician and historian for the AHL who won four Calder Cups as General Manager of the original Cleveland Barons.
