Eight is Enough as Saints Win at Home 9-4

ST. PAUL, MN (August 21, 2007) - The St. Paul Saints got tired of being pushed around at home and did something about it on Tuesday night with a 9-4 victory over the Lincoln Saltdogs in front of 6,551 at Midway Stadium.

The Saints, who had led just 1.0 inning in their previous 83.0 at home, never trailed on Tuesday night and they jumped out in the first inning when Scooter Jordan led off with a single to center. He moved to third on a single from Adam Bourassa and scored on an RBI single from Marcel Longmire.

The Saints exploded for five runs in the fifth inning, sending eight men to the plate. With runners at first and second and one out, Bourassa came through with an RBI single. Derrick White followed with a two-run single which made it 4-0. After Longmire reached, when center fielder Corey Harrington dropped a fly ball, Fernando Valenzuela Jr. doubled home two making it 6-0.

The Saltdogs made it interesting in the seventh when Brett Cooley reached on a two base throwing error by Brian Sprout with one out. Josh Patton followed with a single and Tony Garcia added a three-run homer, his fourth of the season. Saints starter Charlie Ruud left the game later in the inning, but was tremendous going 6.2 innings allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits while walking one and striking out four, earning his 11th victory of the season.

Longmire answered the three run top of the seventh with a solo blast of his own in the bottom of the inning, his 15th homer of the season.

Heath and Bourassa each collected three hits while Longmire, Valenzuela and Kevin Sullivan each had two.

With the Saints victory and the victory by the Sioux City Explorers the Saints remain 1.0 game up on the Explorers in the division with four games to go. The Saints and Saltdogs meet one final time on Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. The Saints send LHP Brian Whinnery (6-5, 3.20) while the Saltdogs are TBA. The game can be seen on FSN North and heard on KBGY 107.5 FM. It is the final regular season home game for the Saints and it is Midway Stadium replica giveaway night presented by Treasure Island Resort and Casino given out to the first 2,500 fans.
