Brantford Bulldogs News Release

OSHAWA, ONTARIO. Opening up a two game weekend road trip at the Tribute Communities Centre in Oshawa, the Bulldogs faced off with the Generals for the second time in the young season on Friday night.

Still missing defensemen Lucas Moore, Noah Roberts & Cedricsson Okitundu, it was Bulldogs rookie netminder David Egorov who stood out early for the Bulldogs. A brilliant splitting save on a Matthew Buckley backhand was quickly followed by an explosive right to left shoulder stop on Rasmus Kumpulainen to keep the game scoreless. Egorov was dented once in the opening frame, as the aforementioned Kumpulainen rifled a wrist shot from just outside the top of the right circle to the top corner for his 3rd of the season at 11:35. The Bulldogs picked things up for their goaltender from there, starting at 16:55 as Jake O'Brien worked the puck high to a rotating Jorian Donovan who slid it behind the net to Patrick Thomas. The crafty centre wrapped around the net and looked off the front of goal while beating Jacob Oster from the bottom of the right circle for his 1st of the season tying the game 1-1. The Bulldogs stayed on the attack at 18:12 as Calvin Crombie fed Daniel Chen at the right point who hammered a shot towards the Oshawa net where it was tipped by Masen Wray for his 1st of the season giving the Bulldogs the lead 2-1, with the assist Calvin Crombie earned his 1st point in the OHL on the goal. Before the period was out Brantford added one more, after David Egorov batted aside a right-wing shot, Daniel Chen spiked the puck off the defensive zone boards where Luca Testa swooped over to it in full flight and carried in the right circle, driving a shot on Oster that beat the Generals goaltender under the arm to give the Bulldogs a 3-1 lead on Testa's 2nd of the season at 18:44 that they would carry into the locker room after 20 minutes.

In the middle frame the Bulldogs kept their momentum going, after Masen Wray scrambled a puck to the slot, Calvin Crombie spun over top and sent a shot through the legs of Jacob Oster for his 1st OHL goal at 3:30 to triple the Bulldogs lead to 4-1. The David Egorov show continued from there, with the Generals pressing hard to get back into the game, the Bulldogs netminder was outstanding, turning aside all 15 he faced in the frame. The most incredible stop of the period coming with just over a minute left after a goal mouth scramble, the Generals sent the puck to the top of the slot where Luca D'Amato clattered a drive off Daniel Chen's shin pads. In the chaos, Egorov lost sight of the puck but managed to fight his way back to the top of his blue paint and when the D'Amato followed up was thrown towards what looked like an open net, Egorov, near-miraculously, manged to pad it aside to hold the Bulldogs lead at 4-1. After 40 minutes, Egorov had turned aside 24 Generals shots and added an assist, taking over the game for Brantford.

The third period was a fairly quiet affair, mainly thanks to Bulldogs goaltender David Egorov who piled up another 12 saves to this total, stopping 36 of 37 in the game. Egorov's finest in the third came late, with the Oshawa net empty, Dylan Roobroeck fired a shot from the bottom of the right circle which the Brantford netminder sealed the post and lunged forward making the stop with his mask to keep the Bulldogs lead in tact. Brantford iced the game 15:32, with the Oshawa net empty, as Florian Xhekaj flew the puck ahead for a streaking Nick Lardis who skated the puck to the Generals' crease and rolled it into the yawning cage for his 6th of the season, securing the Bulldogs a 5-1 road win.

The Brantford Bulldogs return to action travelling to Owen Sound on Saturday night, October 21st for a 7:00pm meeting with the Attack at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre.
