WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- The Pacific Coast League today named Sacramento River Cats outfielder Mike Edwards its "Player of the Week" and right-handed pitcher Justin Duchscherer its "Pitcher of the Week" for their efforts during the week of April 28 to May 4.

Edwards, 26, batted .500 (14-for-28) with 2 HR and 11 RBI in seven games from April 28 to May 4. He had a .857 slugging percentage and .576 on-base percentage during the stretch. For the season, Edwards is hitting .384 (28-for-73) with 2 HR and 16 RBI in 25 games. Originally selected by the Cleveland Indians in the ninth round of the 1995 Draft, this season marks his ninth in professional baseball. Edwards was signed by the Oakland A's as a free agent prior to this season.

Duchscherer, 25, went 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA in one game last week. He held Memphis to just 2 H in 8.0 IP on May 2, extending his scoreless-innings streak to 16. Duchscherer allowed no bases on balls and struck out three batters in his May 2 outing. He is 2-0 with a 0.79 ERA in five starts for Sacramento this season. Originally selected by the Boston Red Sox in the eighth round of the 1996 Draft, he is playing his eighth season of professional baseball. Duchscherer was acquired by Oakland from the Texas Rangers in a trade (March 18, 2002) for right-handed pitcher Luis Vizcaino.

The River Cats will return home from their current eight-game roadtrip Saturday, when they begin a four-game series against the Salt Lake Stingers at Raley Field. Tickets for all River Cats home games are available at the Raley Field Ticket Office, on the internet at www.tickets.com and at all Tickets.com outlets (select Raley's & Bel Air stores).
