Stockton Thunder News Release
STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder, proud ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League's Edmonton Oilers and San Jose Sharks, announced today that the Oilers have recalled defenseman Jordan Bendfeld from the Thunder to the Oklahoma City Barons of the American Hockey League.
Bendfeld, 22, will be available to suit up for the Barons in their next game at home, on Friday against the Texas Stars at 5:05 p.m.
The 6-foot-3, 230-pound defenseman has skated in five games for the Thunder this year and was selected in the seventh round (193rd overall) of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft by Edmonton. He has appeared in 74 career games for the Thunder over the last three seasons (2008-11), scoring 13 points (1g-12a) while posting 138 penalty minutes.
Last season, the Leduc, Alberta native recorded five points (1g-4a) and a +10 rating in 15 Kelly Cup Playoff games, helping guide the Thunder to the National Conference Finals for the first time in team history. Bendfeld also suited up in 52 regular season games last year for the Thunder, posting ten assists and 91 penalty minutes.
He also skated in ten AHL games for Springfield, collecting one assist and seven penalty minutes.
Bendfeld's recall is one day after Edmonton recalled left winger Jean-Francois Jacques and defenseman Shawn Belle from Oklahoma City.
The Thunder roster currently stands at 22 players (3 goaltenders, 19 skaters). Center Jordan Foreman is immediately eligible to be activated from the three-day injured reserve list and defenseman Chase Ryan will be eligible to be activated from the 21-day injured reserve list on Saturday.
A two-time recipient of the ECHL "Award of Excellence," Thunder has led the ECHL in attendance for four seasons, has been voted "Best Local Sports Team" by readers of the San Joaquin Magazine for three straight years, and drew over 200,000 fans for the fifth consecutive season in 2009-10. Season Tickets, mini-plans and individual tickets for 2010-11 are on sale now.
