Chico Outlaws News Release
CHICO- The Edmonton Capitals score double digit runs for the second consecutive game to beat Outlaws, 10-5.
The majority of the Capitals damage was done in the second and third innings. Four straight hits by Edmonton to start the second inning turned out to be the beginning of the end for the Outlaws. All four hitters came around to score in the inning to build a four to nothing lead.
After a single run by the Outlaws in the bottom of the second, the Capitals turned in another stellar inning in the third. The same four batters for the Capitals who did the damage in the second, did it again in the third. Lou Santangelo started off the inning with a homerun to deep left field. Three straight singles would score another run and leave runners on first and third for Carlos Duncan. He proceeded to then hit a monster three run blast well over the left field wall to give the Capitals an 8-1 advantage. The damage wasn't done until after Edmonton would score another run when the night's winning pitcher Rory Shortell (4-2) helped his own cause by hitting a single and later coming around to score on a bases loaded walk of Tom Collaro.
Chico and Edmonton would add single runs in the bottom of the third and top of the fifth innings, respectively. The Outlaws run came via back-to-back doubles by Al Quintana and Chris Lubanksi. The Capitals pushed the lead back to eight after Jamie McGraw reached base on an error by shortstop Jay Pecci and later came around to score on a Collaro sacrifice fly.
The Outlaws lone multiple run inning came in the eighth inning. Facing an eight run deficit, Chico strung together multiple hits, culminating in a three run triple by Jay Pecci to draw the Outlaws within five. However, that was as close as the Outlaws would come Tuesday night as the Capitals shut them out in the bottom of the ninth.
