Edmonton Capitals News Release
Chico, CA - The Edmonton Capitals are once again even with the Lake County Fielders for first place in the North American League's North Division thanks to a 10-5 road victory over the Chico Outlaws on Tuesday night.
The Caps improved to 24-14 on the 2011 season with the double-up win, their second consecutive victory over the Outlaws following up on Monday's 11-2 drubbing. Edmonton scored all of their runs in the first five innings, putting four on the board in the second, five more in the third and a single in the fifth.
Third baseman Carlos Duncan led the way offensively for the Caps, blasting a three-run home run and a double to give him four RBI and two runs scored on the night. First baseman Lou Santangelo also hit a home run and scored a pair of runs, while shortstop Enrique Cruz had three hits and two runs scored. Catcher Nick Valdez also had a productive game with two hits, two runs scored and one RBI.
Edmonton also got yet another strong pitching performance from Rory Shortell. The right-hander started the season as a relief pitcher, but he has become one of the team's most consistent starters, upping his record to 4-2 with Tuesday's win. Shortell surrendered just one earned run on six hits while striking out six Outlaws through six innings to record his fourth win.
The Caps are now three games into a lengthy 12-game road trip with a 2-1 record thus far. The trip sees them playing July 3-10 in Chico against the Outlaws and July 12-14 in Calgary versus the provincial rival Vipers. The Caps return to TELUS Field to host the Vipers and continue the battle of Alberta July 15-17.
The Capitals are the city's most affordable entertainment option in the summer featuring Edmonton's largest patio! Season seats start at less than $9 per seat. Individual game tickets start at $10 in advance and can be purchased at the Capitals Box Office (10233 - 96 Ave) during regular business hours Monday through Friday, at any Ticketmaster location, online at capsbaseball.ca or via phone at 780-414-GOAL (4625).
