May 30, 2009 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
Edmonton Capitals News Release
The Capitals (4-4) began their first road trip of the 2009 season against the St. George RoadRunners (6-2) on Friday night. Unfortunately for the Caps, their hosts were not overly kind, handing the team a 9-5 defeat.
Caps starter Chris Little (0-1) took the loss as he was unable to get out of a six-run RoadRunner sixth inning. Eric Van Slyke (1-0) received the win for the home team, pitching a complete game with his only blemish being a four-run Capitals top of the ninth.
Marcus Nettles led the hitting for the Capitals going three for four with a run scored and one batted in. AJ Valentine had a homerun for St. George and finished two for four at the plate, while Angel Sanchez was three for four with two runs scored.
The Capitals will be back in action on Saturday with a doubleheader in St. George. The team's next game at TELUS field will be Friday, June 5. Faith and Family Night and a pre-game concert featuring the Christian rock band Run Kid Run will precede the 8pm game with the RoadRunners to be followed by the second edition of Friday Night Fireworks.
