May 30, 2009 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
Tucson Toros News Release
The Tucson Toros defeated the Orange County Flyers 3 to 1 on Saturday night at Hi Corbett Field. The victory is the second in a row for the Toros.
Toros Starting Pitcher Dan Knox (1-0) was brilliant in his first start of the season. He threw 7 strong innings allowing only one run off of three hits. Knox struck out eight of the twenty-two batters that he faced, including retiring the last eleven. It is Knox's first victory on the season.
The Toros received a nice contribution from the bottom half of their lineup. 3B Mayo Santana and C Luis Apodaca went 1-4 with an RBI batting in the 7th and 8th hole, and SS Franklin Gonzalez went 2-3 with an RBI in the 9th hole.
2B Skip Adams extended his hitting streak to six games. He has now reached base safely in every single game of the season.
Flyers C Frank LoNigro accounted for OC's only run when homered to deep left field in the 3rd inning.
The Toros move to 3-3 on the season, and the Flyers drop to 0-5. The Toros look to go for the series sweep and the first ever in GBL Toros history. The Toros will send Danny Greenwalt to the mound, and Matt Durkin will get the nod for Orange County. Game time is 7:00 pm, for Dollar Dog Sunday.
