
Womack, Jones, Kaplan go deep as Armada bests Seals

Long Beach Armada News Release
VICTORIA, Biritsh Columbia - Long Beach used the long ball to overcome a four run deficit to top the Victoria Seals, 6-5, at Royal Athletic Park on Saturday. The Armada won its third straight to improve to 5-4, and the Seals dropped to 1-7.
The Seals took an early 4-0 lead after four innings, but Long Beach hit a team-high three home runs on the night to answer back for the win.
Long Beach starter Keith Ramsey earned the win, pitching 5.2 innings, giving up four runs (two earned) on six hits, striking out six batters and walking one in his second start of the year.
Ramsey (1-1) faced the minimum through the first inning, but allowed two unearned runs in the second inning. Ramsey struck out Brian Rios to start the frame and Josh Arhart singled to get on base. Ramsey picked off Arhart at first base but was called for a balk, advancing Arhart to second base. Jamar Hill then reached on an error by Chad Miller. Kyle Nichols singled to advance Arhart to third and Hill to second. Bret LeVier the grounded to shortstop Omar Bramasco who could not turn the double play but recovered to get LeVier at first. The double play would have ended the inning, and instead Arhart scored on the play. Hill scored during the next at bat on a wild pitch, giving the Seals a 2-0 lead after two innings.
Seals starter Eduardo Baeza retired the first 11 batters he faced until Casey Garrison broke up the perfect game with a double in the top of the fourth inning. Baeza pitched seventh innings, giving up five runs on five hits, striking out five and issuing one walk. Baeza (1-1) earned the loss in his third start of the season.
Victoria extended its lead in the fourth inning thanks to a two-run homerun by Hill that doubled the Seals lead, 4-0.
Long Beach pulled even in the fifth inning. Matt Edgecombe drew a walk in an 11-pitch at-bat, and Kaplan doubled to move Edgecombe to third. Two batters later, Steve Young drove them both in with a single to right field, and Josh Womack blasted his first long-ball of the year to tie the game, 4-4.
Daryl Jones gave Long Beach a 5-4 lead with his a solo homerun (2) in the top of the sixth, his second solo shot in consecutive nights.
Seals reliever Ethan Katz, who was signed earlier in the day, came on in the final two innings to limit the Armada's production. Katz struck out five batters but gave up a solo homerun to Jonny Kaplan (2) in the top of the ninth to make it 6-4.
Ryne Tacker pitched the ninth inning, earning his third save in three consecutive games. The Seals put the pressure on Tacker in the ninth. Victoria got two runners on base and with two outs lead off man Chris Van Rossum singled to bring to drive in a run and close the gap to 6-5. Tacker struck out former Armada shortstop Petie Montero for the final out to preserve the win.
