HARLINGEN- Dave Dineli bested Celson Polanco in a 5-2 Edinburg Roadrunners victory against Rio Grande Valley at Harlingen Field Thursday night.

Dineli (3-5) entered the game leading the NABL in strikeouts but used a different strategy to best Polanco (6-3), who had a 1.44 earned run average entering the game.

"I was just pitching to contact. They followed suit by swinging at early pitches," said Dineli, 25-year-old former Houston Astros farmhand. "With a team like [the WhiteWings], they like to swing early and are overly aggressive so I just tried to keep the ball down and make them swing as often as they could."

As a result, Dineli only notched five strikeouts in the game but allowed just four hits and one earned run in eight innings. He also walked five batters. Dineli's season strikeout total is 62.

Meanwhile, Polanco was touched for a home run by Wilmer Pino in the top of the first inning and allowed 10 hits while allowing four earned runs, walking one, and striking out seven.

Derek Perren also contributed to the first-place Roadrunners' (33-20) cause with three hits, including an RBI single in the first inning to give Edinburg a 2-0 lead and a steal of home on the back end of a double steal that concluded the scoring of the game in the eighth.

Felix Molina also collected three hits and scored a run in the second inning, while Ruddy Yan drove in both WhiteWings (30-22) runs.

The victory gave Edinburg a sweep of the two game series in Harlingen. The two teams will meet for three more games in Edinburg this weekend, with tonight's game scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
