
Dinelli Leads Roadrunners Past 'Wings

HARLINGEN, Texas - Dave Dinelli allowed one earned run in eight innings as he pitched the Edinburg Roadrunners past the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings 5-2 Thursday night at Harlingen Field.
Dinelli (3-5) allowed two runs but one earned on four hits and added to his league leading strikeout total with five.
Wilmer Pino got the Roadrunners (33-20) on the board in the top of the first with a solo homerun off of Celson Polanco. Carlos Hereaud then followed with a double and then he came in to score on an RBI single by Derek Perren making it 2-0.
In the top of the second, Tim Battle extended the Edinburg lead with an RBI single that scored Felix Molina from second. Vincent Blue then hit an RBI single scoring Eric Bloom pushing the lead to 4-0.
A sacrifice fly in the bottom of the third by Ruddy Yan got the WhiteWings (30-22) on the board cutting the Roadrunners lead 4-1.
Yan then cut the Edinburg lead in half with an RBI double in the bottom of the fifth that scored Bryan Marquez to make it 4-2.
With runners on the corners in the top of the eighth, a double-steal allowed Perren to score from third making it 5-2 Edinburg.
Julio Castro picked up his ninth save with a scoreless ninth inning giving Edinburg the 5-2 victory.
The Roadrunners and WhiteWings will continue their series Friday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Osvaldo Rodriguez (3-0) is expected to pitch for Edinburg with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
