Eastern Conference Finals: Game 5 Preview- South Carolina at Wheeling, 7:35 p.m.

THE MATCHUP

The South Carolina Stingrays visit the Wheeling Nailers for Game 5 of the 2016 Eastern Conference Finals this evening. Entering tonight's contest, the series is tied, 2-2. This evening is the final contest of the series in Wheeling. The Nailers used home ice to their advantage in Game 3, earning a 2-1 win, but the Stingrays responded with a 4-2 win in Game 4 at WesBanco Arena. Both squads are coming off lengthy series in the Conference Semifinals. Last Wednesday, the Stingrays defeated Adirondack in double-overtime in Game 7 on a Joe Devin goal, while the Nailers took down the Reading Royals in Game 7 in overtime on a Riley Brace goal. The Stingrays and Nailers met twice during the regular season with both games taking place in Wheeling. South Carolina was 1-1-0-0 versus the Nailers in those games. The winner of the Eastern Conference Finals will play the winner of the Allen Americans/Fort Wayne Komets series in the Kelly Cup Finals. The Americans lead that series, 2-1.

GAME 4 RECAP

The South Carolina Stingrays flipped the script on Friday night. After seeing Wheeling earn comeback wins in Game 2 and Game 3, it was the Stingrays who erased a third period deficit in the win. The Stingrays tied the game midway through the third period on a Marcus Perrier goal, and Brett Cameron scored on the power play with under five minutes to play to give the Stingrays a 3-2 lead. David Pacan added an empty net goal, and Vitek Vanecek stopped 17 shots. The Stingrays are 3-0 in Game 4's so far in the 2016 Kelly Cup Playoffs.

THE STREAK ROLLS ON

Night in and night out, Austin Fyten and David Pacan continue to impressive. Fyten's assist on Caleb Herbert's goal last night, and Pacan's empty net goal, extended lengthy point-streaks for each player. Fyten has points in eight straight games (four goals, five assists), while Pacan has points in seven straight contests (two goals, six assists).

RIGHT TIME FOR THE POWER PLAY

South Carolina's game-winning goal last night was the Stingrays' first power play goal of the series. In Games 1-3, the Stingrays were 0-for-10 on the power play, and the club started yesterday at 0-for-4 on the man-advantage before Brett Cameron broke the streak with 4:51 to play.

SCORING FIRST

The Stingrays have scored the first goal of the game in all four contests in this series. In 16 games, the Stingrays have opened the scoring 12 times, the most in the postseason in the ECHL. South Carolina is 8-4 when they score first. In 17 playoff contests, the Nailers have scored the first goal in only five games. They are 4-1 in those contests. Wheeling has allowed the first goal in seven straight games.

BACK TO CHARLESTON

With the series tied, 2-2, it is now guaranteed that the series will return to South Carolina next week for at least Game 6 on Monday, May 23. The Stingrays are 6-2 on home ice in the postseason at the North Charleston Coliseum.
