UNCASVILLE, Conn. (January 29, 2008) - Unbeaten East Hampton has been selected as the Connecticut Sun High School Girls' Basketball Team of the Week following a 65-30 victory over Westbrook on January 21st.
The defending Shoreline Conference Champions won again Monday night against Hale-Ray, and are currently 15-0 heading into Thursday's game with Portland. The Bellringers are off to the best start in program history, and have also established a new school record for consecutive victories in a season. In the victory over Westbrook, junior Brooke Pitcher and freshman Kelsey Booth each had 14 points while senior captain and point guard Sarah Joseph added 12 points.
Each week during the high school girls' basketball regular season, the Connecticut Sun will select one Team of the Week. That team will receive a commemorative plaque, courtesy of the Connecticut Sun and Barker Specialty. Norwich Free Academy, Bulkeley, Lauralton Hall, Fermi, Montville and Plainville have all been recognized this season.
In its second season, The Team of the Week is one in a series of initiatives undertaken by the Connecticut Sun to highlight local girls' high school basketball, where future WNBA stars are already competing. The Sun also conduct a high school tour, host the CIAC Championship luncheon and recognize the four CIAC Class champions during a ceremony at halftime of a regular season game.
