SAN JOSE, Calif. -The San Jose Earthquakes earned a 3-3 road draw against Vancouver Whitecaps FC last Saturday at BC Place in Vancouver, British Columbia, after defeating Seattle Sounders FC in the U.S. Open Cup Round of 32 via penalty shootout following a 2-2 draw at Starfire Sports Complex in Tukwila, Wash. last Wednesday.

The Earthquakes are now scheduled to play a pair of home matches at PayPal Park this week, first hosting the Portland Timbers on Wednesday, May 18, presented by Uber, before playing Sporting Kansas City on Sunday, May 22, presented by Adobe. Wednesday's match is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. PT, while Sunday's game is slated for 4:30 p.m. PT. Both games will be broadcast on NBC Sports California, KNBR 1050, and 1370 KZSF.

U.S. Open Cup

The Quakes are now 20-16 all-time in U.S. Open Cup competition, including 10-9 as the road team.

Never Say Die

San Jose won a penalty shootout for the first time since June 16, 2015 vs. Sacramento Republic FC. The club is now 4-3 all-time in penalty shootouts in U.S. Open Cup competition.

Club Milestone

The victory was the Quakes' first ever on the road against an MLS opponent in U.S. Open Cup competition.

Goal Scorers

Midfielder Jack Skahan and forward Cade Cowell each scored one goal against Seattle on Wednesday. Both have now scored one goal in each of the Quakes' two U.S. Open Cup matches in 2022.

Gaining Momentum

San Jose is now 4-1-1 in all competitions under interim head coach Alex Covelo, including a 2-1-1 record in MLS play and 2-0-0 record in U.S. Open Cup play.

His First

Jamiro Monteiro scored his first goal of the season and 10th of his MLS career. It marked his first goal for San Jose.

Assist Contributors

Jan Gregus and Cristian Espinoza tallied one and two assists on Saturday, respectively. Both players now lead the Quakes in assists with six apiece and are one assist behind current MLS leader Diego Fagundez (ATX). Cade Cowell also tallied two assists on Saturday.

Career Milestone

With his two assists on Saturday, Cristian Espinoza now ranks fifth-most in assists in club history (37).

Leading in Goals

Jeremy Ebobisse scored his team-leading sixth and seventh goals of the season, and ranks tied for second in MLS with seven goals this season. He now has three multi-goal games this season.

NEXT GAME VS. PORTLAND TIMBERS (5/18)

Defending our Home

The Quakes are currently unbeaten in their last five MLS matches at PayPal Park (2-1-3). San Jose has only lost once in six MLS matches at home so far this year, with the defeat happening on Feb. 26, 2022 in the Home Opener against the New York Red Bulls.

Seeking a Win

San Jose is looking for their first win against Portland at PayPal Park since April 6, 2019. Goals from Cristian Espinoza, Shea Salinas, and Vako earned the Quakes a 3-0 victory over the visiting side.

At Home vs. Portland

The Quakes have only lost three times when hosting the Timbers at PayPal Park since its opening in 2015 (4-3-2).

Midweek Matchup

The match will mark the first of four Wednesday games for the Quakes in the 2022 MLS season.

Jeremy Ebobisse Selected to MLS Team of the Week

San Jose Earthquakes forward Jeremy Ebobisse has been selected to Major League Soccer's Team of the Week for Week 11 after scoring two goals in the Quakes' 3-3 road draw against Vancouver Whitecaps FC last Saturday. He now ranks tied for second in MLS with seven goals this season and is the first player to tally three multi-goal games this year.

Earthquakes to Face Sacramento Republic FC in U.S. Open Cup Round of 16 on May 25

The San Jose Earthquakes will face Sacramento Republic FC in the 2022 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Round of 16 on Wednesday, May 25 (7:30 p.m. PT) at Heart Health Park in Sacramento, Calif. The match will be broadcast live on ESPN+. The Earthquakes advanced to the Round of 16 after defeating Seattle Sounders FC in a penalty shootout (10-9) following a 2-2 draw on Wednesday at Starfire Sports Complex in Tukwila, Wash. The Quakes had previously earned a 5-0 home win over Bay Cities FC (NISA) on April 19 at PayPal Park.

Earthquakes Introduce Innovative Donation Platform to Support Player Selected Nonprofits

The San Jose Earthquakes announced last Monday the launch of an innovative new giving platform: Pledges from the Pitch . The initiative was created to support the Quakes' first team players and their passions off the field. Each first team player has selected a nonprofit organization that supports a cause they feel most passionate about. Pledges from the Pitch enables fans from around the world to join the players in supporting those causes, with donations benefitting both the players' chosen nonprofits (80%) and the Quakes Foundation (20%).

EARTHQUAKES II UPDATE

Earthquakes II defeated Colorado Rapids 2 by a 7-1 score line on Sunday at PayPal Park. Max Arfsten tallied two goals and an assist for Quakes II. The victory gives Quakes II their second consecutive victory by 3+ goals. San Jose's seven goals also matched the MLS NEXT Pro goal record set in a single match by a team.

Quakes II will continue their three-match homestand when they host Sporting KC II on Friday, May 20. ACADEMY UPDATE

The Quakes Academy Boys U15s and U17s kicked off their participation in the MLS Next Flex Event at the Maryland Soccerplex this weekend.

The U15s tied the Indiana Fire Academy 3-3 on Saturday before defeating Oakwood Soccer Club 3-0 on Sunday. They will next face the New York Red Bulls in their last group stage match on Tuesday.

The U17s defeated both Beachside Soccer Club CT (2-0) and Southern Soccer Academy (2-0) on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. They will now play the Indiana Fire Academy on Tuesday as well.
