Neville: "We Just Want to Keep Improving"
May 16, 2022 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Inter Miami CF News Release
After a draw with D.C. United over the weekend, Inter Miami will hit the road for a midweek match against the Philadelphia Union on Wednesday, May 18. For head coach Phil Neville, the match presents the opportunity to further sharpen his team against challenging opposition.
"We're in a stage where we're getting a lot of players back and we'll need every single one of them for what's going to be a real good stretch for us. We go to Philadelphia with real confidence in how we played [against D.C. United], but slightly frustrated with the result in the end," said Neville. "We just want to keep improving, keep getting better and keep being ruthless and making sure that we turn that draw like on Saturday and against Charlotte into victories. That's the most important thing, we know where a win will take us in the league table and that's really important."
Ahead of the visit to Subaru Park, where Neville guided the England Women's National Team to a win over Brazil en route to the 2019 SheBelieves Cup title, the head coach also shared what he expects from the match.
"We're playing against a really top team with one of the best managers in the league in Jim [Curtin], and I have a lot of respect for them...We know it's going to be a tough game," said Neville. "The stadium there is one of my favorites in MLS. I've got good memories in that stadium in my previous job as well, so I really enjoy going to Philadelphia."
Versatile attacking player Robert Taylor is also prepared for the challenge of taking on Philadelphia on the road, but expressed confidence in his team and the strength in its depth.
"It's always tough to play away and play a team that's on a good streak and winning games. Playing a team that's winning games, they will always have confidence in what they're doing," said Taylor.
"I feel like we have very good players in every position right now. The competition is tough and definitely you can throw anyone in any position, on the attacking side especially, and they will do as good a job as anyone really."
