San Jose Earthquakes News Release
The San Jose Earthquakes have two matches this week. They will take on MLS Western Conference leaders FC Dallas on Wednesday, Aug. 29 at 7:15 p.m. PT at Avaya Stadium. The match will be broadcast live on NBC Sports California, KNBR 1050 and 1370 KZSF.
The Quakes will then head to Canada to face Vancouver Whitecaps FC on Saturday, Sept. 1 at 7 p.m. PT at BC Place. This match will be broadcast live on NBC Sports Bay Area, KNBR 1050 and 1370 KZSF.
This past Saturday, the Earthquakes suffered a 3-2 loss to Vancouver Whitecaps FC. Earthquakes midfielders Jahmir Hyka and Magnus Eriksson scored in the seventh and 18th minutes, respectively, to give the Quakes an early lead. Goals from Yordy Reyna, Cristian Techera and Kei Kamara in the second half earned Vancouver the comeback victory.

The Earthquakes were 9-1-4 in the final 14 games against Dallas prior to San Jose's relocation to Houston ... The Quakes posted a seven-game winning streak during that stretch from July 20, 2002 - April 15, 2004 ... San Jose and Dallas met in an important match on Oct. 16, 2004, as San Jose needed a win or a tie to advance to the playoffs, while Dallas needed a win to clinch the final berth in the playoffs. The two teams played to a 2-2 tie at the Cotton Bowl, giving San Jose a spot in the playoffs, while Dallas did not qualify. Ramiro Corrales scored the Quakes second goal in that game ... On Sept. 27, 2003, San Jose's Dwayne De Rosario scored the fastest goal in MLS history, netting a goal 11 seconds into the match at Spartan Stadium against Dallas. De Rosario would go on to net a hat trick in the game, the second hat trick in Quakes team history ... The Earthquakes won both matches against FC Dallas in 2011 ... RENO 1868 FC UPDATE
This past Saturday, Aug. 25, Reno 1868 FC fell 2-1 to Sacramento Republic FC at Greater Nevada Field. Earthquakes Homegrown midfielder Gilbert Fuentes made his first professional regular season appearance in the match, coming on as a sub for Quakes forward Mohamed Thiaw in the 66th minute.
Reno will play two matches this week. They will finish their rivalry week this Tuesday when they take on Las Vegas Lights FC on Aug. 28, at Greater Nevada Field. Tickets for this match can be found here. On Saturday, Sept. 1, they will face Fresno FC at Chukchansi Park.
ACADEMY UPDATE
Earthquakes Academy players Sophie Jones and Mia Fontana have completed their stay in South Korea with the United States U-17 Women's National Team. The U-17s faced the hosts on Aug. 18 and Aug. 21, and earned a 4-4 draw and a 2-2 draw, respectively. The matches were played in preparation for the 2018 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup, which will take place in Uruguay in November. Read the full story here.
Additionally, Earthquakes Academy defender Andrea Kitahata and the U.S. U-15 GNT earned gold in the CFA International Tournament in Weifang, China. The U-15s earned gold in the four-team tournament after winning their first two matches against Japan (3-2) and China (5-0). The U.S. capped off the tournament by defeating the Czech Republic 3-0.
