Minnesota United FC News Release
GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. -- Minnesota United and Tyrone Mears have agreed to mutually terminate the player's contract, the club announced today.
"We thank Tyrone for his service to the club and the community," said MNUFC Head Coach Adrian Heath. "We felt this was the right move for Tye at this time, to go back home and be closer to his family and play his football in the Championship in England. We wish him well."
Mears, 35, joined MNUFC as the fourth overall pick in the 2017 MLS Re-Entry Draft last December following a season with Atlanta United, where he made 20 appearances (16 starts) and contributed a goal and an assist. In eight months with the Loons, he featured on 11 occasions - starting 10 times - and scored one goal.
Come make history as MNUFC opens the upper deck at TCF Bank Stadium and goes for 50,000 fans when the Loons face LA Galaxy in their final home match of the 2018 regular season presented by Star Tribune on Sunday, October 21 at 4:00 p.m. For more information, visit MNUFC.COM.
