Earthquakes to Host Organ Donor Awareness Night on Saturday, August 30 at Spartan Stadium

San Jose (Thursday, August 28, 2003) - The San Jose Earthquakes and the California Transplant Donor Network announced today that the Earthquakes will host Organ Donor Awareness night this Saturday, August 30 when the Earthquakes take on the Colorado Rapids at Spartan Stadium. The match kicks off at 7:00 p.m. PT.

For the second straight year, Quakes captain Jeff Agoos will be recognized as the spokesperson for organ donor awareness. On August 30, Earthquakes fans can pick up an Agoos player card as they enter the stadium that contains information on organ donation and transplantation, and a message from Agoos asking fans to show their commitment to organ and tissue donation. The card also doubles as a valid organ donation card. The Transplant Network will have a booth at the East entrance to Spartan Stadium with information about organ donation along with the Agoos player cards.

The California Transplant Donor Network saves and improves lives by facilitating organ and tissue donation for transplantation. The Transplant Network helps approximately 160 hospitals in 40 Northern and Central California and Northern Nevada counties offer the option of organ and tissue donation to families whose loved ones have died; coordinates deceased organ recovery and placement; and provides public education. The Transplant Network also offers on-going support and resources for donor families.

In the midst of the their third six-game unbeaten streak of the season, the Earthquakes own the best record in MLS and can clinch a playoff berth Saturday with a win over the Rapids or a loss by the Dallas Burn to the Los Angeles Galaxy. In addition to receiving an Agoos player card on Saturday, the first 5,000 fans at Spartan Stadium will get an Earthquakes mini-fan, presented by RadioShack.
