Fire Extends Stadium Financial Proposal Deadline to Sept. 15

CHICAGO, IL (Thursday, August 28, 2003) - The Chicago Fire and its parent company, Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG), have announced that the club has extended the stadium financial proposal deadline for the Chicago Fire stadium to Monday, September 15. The original deadline to select the permanent site for the Major League Soccer (MLS) club had been previously set for late August.

The communities of Bridgeview, Chicago, Hanover Park and Hoffman Estates all remain as finalists to house a 20,000 to 25,000 seat stadium to be used as the permanent home of the Chicago Fire. Each of the five communities provided strong responses to the team's 10-acre site minimum and 40-acre parking criteria.

The Fire will be returning to its original home in Chicago to conclude the 2003 MLS regular season at the new Soldier Field with two games in October. The dates are Friday, October 10 at 8:00 p.m. CT against the Columbus Crew and Saturday, October 18 at 8:00 p.m. CT against the Colorado Rapids.

Currently in its sixth Major League Soccer (MLS) season, the Chicago Fire was founded on October 8, 1997 as an expansion team. The Fire captured the MLS Cup and U.S. Open Cup in the team's inaugural season in 1998. The Fire also won the 2000 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup and 2000 and 2001 MLS Central Division titles. After playing its first four seasons at Chicago's Soldier Field, the Chicago Fire moved its home games to suburban Naperville's Cardinal Stadium on the campus of North Central College in April 2002.
