
Earthquakes to Host Bay Cities FC in Third Round of the 2022 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on April 19

SAN JOSE, Calif. - The San Jose Earthquakes will host Bay Cities FC in the Third Round of the 2022 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on Tuesday, April 19 (7:30 p.m. PT) at PayPal Park. The match will mark San Jose's first game in U.S. Open Cup competition at PayPal Park since June 11, 2019.
Earthquakes Season Ticket Holders can use the Bonus Match A tickets included in their season package for all 2022 U.S. Open Cup matches at PayPal Park, excluding the tournament semifinals and final. Season Ticket Holders will also get an exclusive presale for additional tickets beginning Tuesday, April 12 at 10 a.m. PT. Tickets will then be made available to the general public on Wednesday, April 13 at 10 a.m. PT and will be available by visiting Ticketmaster.com. Group tickets of 10 or more can be purchased by calling the Earthquakes Front Office at (408) 556-7700.
The Quakes will face Bay Cities FC for the first time in any competition. Bay Cities FC is in its inaugural season in the National Independent Soccer Association (NISA). The team is based in Redwood City, Calif. and plays its home matches at Terremere Field on the campus of Sequoia High School. Bay Cities FC most recently defeated USL Championship side Monterey Bay F.C. 2-1 in the second round of the 2022 U.S. Open Cup on April 6 at PayPal Park.
The Earthquakes hold a 18-16 all-time record in U.S. Open Cup matches, including a 16-3 record against non-MLS teams. The match will be the Quakes' seventh at PayPal Park, where they have compiled a 5-1 record against Sacramento Republic FC (2015, 2019), the LA Galaxy (2015, 2017), Seattle Sounders FC (2017), and the San Francisco Deltas (2017). San Jose will enter the matchup with a four-match unbeaten streak in U.S. Open Cup competition at PayPal Park.
About the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup
In its 107th edition, the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup - U.S. Soccer's National Championship - has crowned a champion annually since 1914 - with the exception of 2020 & 21 due to COVID-19. The history-filled tournament is conducted on a single-game, knockout basis and open to all professional and amateur teams affiliated with U.S. Soccer. In 1999, the competition was renamed to honor United States soccer pioneer Lamar Hunt.
The Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup is the oldest ongoing national soccer competition in the United States and the world's third-longest continuously-run national cup tournament.
