Charlotte FC News Release

CHARLOTTE, NC - Charlotte FC today announced the Club will play Greenville Triumph SC in the Third Round of the 2022 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.

A date and time for the match will be confirmed soon but will be played in the April 19-21 window at Greenville.

The U.S. Open Cup is the oldest soccer tournament in the country and has been crowning national champions since 1914 with the winner earning a bid into the 2023 Concacaf Champions League.

The knockout style tournament has been on hiatus since 2019 due to the pandemic. Atlanta United are the current title holders.

Seventeen Major League Soccer teams enter the tournament in the Third Round and were guaranteed to draw a lower-division team. Charlotte FC was placed into a pot with Greenville Triumph SC (USL League 1), North Carolina Fusion U23 (USL League 2), and the Richmond Kickers (USL League 1).

The remaining eight MLS clubs will enter the competition in the Round of 32. CF Montreal, Toronto FC and Vancouver Whitecaps FC are the only MLS club's ineligible for the tournament as they are not based in the United States.

If Charlotte FC advances in the tournament, the Club's first home match is included in all season ticket member packages. Important dates for the remainder of the tournament are below:

April 22: Round of 32 Draw

May 10-11: Round of 32
