San Jose Earthquakes News Release
SAN JOSE, Calif. - San Jose Earthquakes will face Liga MX's Club Leon at Avaya Stadium on Saturday, March 24 at 7:15 p.m. in an international friendly. The match will mark Landon Donovan's first time playing in the U.S. after signing with Club Leon in January of this year.
Donovan played for the Quakes from 2001-04, helping San Jose win the 2001 and 2003 MLS Cups. During his time with the Quakes, Donovan scored 32 goals and provided 29 assists. He currently holds the MLS record for most goals with 145, although current Quakes forward Chris Wondolowski is only 12 goals shy of surpassing him. The Club Leon striker made his debut with the Mexican side this past Saturday, entering the match in the 83rd minute in the 2-1 victory against Puebla.
"This will be the first time in club history that we will play Club Leon in any competition, and the first time that former Earthquakes player and soccer legend Landon Donovan will play at Avaya Stadium," said Earthquakes President Tom Fox. "We have hosted some great international opponents during the past years, and this match is poised to be extra special."
The match will serve as Bonus Game A for Quakes Season Pass Holders and is included in their ticketing package. Season pass holders can purchase additional tickets as part of an exclusive presale at 2 p.m. today.
