Earthquakes Rally to 2-1 Win against C.D.S. Vida in International Friendly

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Tommy Thompson and Khari Stephenson scored in the second half to rally the San Jose Earthquakes to a 2-1 win against C.D.S. Vida of Honduras in an international friendly on Tuesday at Buck Shaw Stadium.

The win improved San Jose's record in international friendlies to 8-8-8 all-time and 5-0-3 at Buck Shaw Stadium. Tuesday's match also marked the final international friendly hosted by the Earthquakes at Buck Shaw with the team set to move into their new stadium next season.

C.D.S. Vida struck first in the 34th minute on a free kick. Reynaldo Tilguath sent an in-swinging cross that Eddie Hernandez redirected past Earthquakes goalkeeper Bryan Meredith from close range, giving the visitors an initial 1-0 lead.

Thompson answered for the Earthquakes two minutes into the second half. Shaun Francis sent a cross through the box that Thompson slid to finish at the far post for his first career goal as a member of the Earthquakes' first team.

Stephenson completed the comeback in the 79th minute with a rocket to the far corner. Billy Schuler lofted a pass to Stephenson, who was facing the sideline near the edge of the 18-yard box. The Jamaican midfielder chest-trapped the pass, let the ball hit the ground and then turned and whipped his shot past C.D.S. goalkeeper Obed Enamorado.

The Earthquakes play their final match at Buck Shaw Stadium in club history on Saturday, Oct. 18 against Vancouver Whitecaps FC. Kickoff is 7:30 p.m. PT on Comcast SportsNet California, 1590 KLIV and 1370 KLIV. The club will open its 2015 season at Earthquakes Stadium, which is nearing completion across from Mineta San Jose International Airport on Coleman Ave.
