Dominic Kinnear Resigns as Houston Dynamo Head Coach

HOUSTON (Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2014) - Houston Dynamo head coach Dominic Kinnear has resigned his position with the team, effective at the conclusion of the 2014 MLS regular season. At that time, Kinnear will join the San Jose Earthquakes as their new head coach, the club announced today.

"After nine fantastic years, it's sad and difficult to see Dominic departing the Dynamo," said Dynamo president Chris Canetti. "We've had a great run together, and he's played a vital role in who we are as a club. We will sorely miss him as a coach and as a person. We understood his desire to return home to San Jose and felt it was appropriate to grant him that wish after all he's done for us. We wish him and his family the best of luck in the future."

Kinnear, a native of Fremont, California, was the head coach of the Earthquakes for two years before the club moved to Houston and became the Dynamo. In his nine seasons with the team, Kinnear compiled a 152-116-107 record in all competitions. He led the Dynamo to two MLS Cup championships (2006, 2007) and four conference championships (2006-07, 2011-12) while reaching the playoffs in seven of his nine years.

The Dynamo will play their final home game of the 2014regular season on Thursday against the New England Revolution (kickoff: 7 p.m.) and finish the year on Oct. 24 in Chicago against the Fire.
