Earthquakes and Devcon Construction to Celebrate Steel Completion with Free Ironworkers Barbecue on

SAN JOSE, Calif. - The San Jose Earthquakes and Devcon Construction will celebrate the completion of the stadium steel erection with a barbecue for the ironworkers on Friday, March 28 at the Earthquakes training facility, adjacent to the new stadium at 1135 Coleman Ave in San Jose. The final piece of steel will be placed in the morning on March 28.

The barbecue is open to the public and will include the ironworkers on the project, Earthquakes players, coaches and front office, along with other members of the construction team. The event, catered by Cosmopolitan Catering will take place from 12-1:30 p.m. PT.

In addition to the barbecue, the Earthquakes will give fans a chance to sign the final piece of steel for the stadium for four days prior to its' installation. Fans can sign the steel beam from March 24-27 between 3:30-5 p.m. at the new stadium site.

The ironworkers' barbecue represents that latest example of the Earthquakes desire to integrate the fans into the construction process. The club and fans set a Guinness World Record in 2012 with 6,256 people shoveling for two minutes for the stadium groundbreaking to kick of the community-focused construction process. More recently, fans have had the opportunity to visit Schuff Steel's factory and to help pour the foundation for the stadium. Earthquakes President Dave Kaval also hosts stadium tours once a month at the stadium site.
