Houston Dynamo FC News Release
HOUSTON (Friday, March 14, 2014) - The Houston Dynamo host the Montreal Impact on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at BBVA Compass Stadium in a match presented by Visa. Tickets are available at www.HoustonDynamo.com, by calling 713-276-GOAL, or by visiting the BBVA Compass Stadium box office (2200 Texas St., Houston) from 12:00 p.m. through kickoff tomorrow. Free smart wallets, presented by Visa, will be issued to the first 7,000 fans through the gates.
The game will be broadcast live on CSN Houston (7:00 p.m. pregame show) and can be heard on Yahoo Sports Radio 1560 AM and 850 AM (Spanish).
The Dynamo opened the 2014 season with a 4-0 triumph over the New England Revolution on Saturday, the largest opening day win in club history. Will Bruin scored two goals in the first 13 minutes, including the first just 63 seconds into the match, and added an assist. Boniek Garcia and Omar Cummings also added goals in the win.
Montreal started its 2014 campaign with a 3-2 defeat at FC Dallas on Saturday. Sanna Nyassi and Andrew Wenger scored goals for the Impact in the road defeat.
Last season, Houston and Montreal met in the Eastern Conference Knockout Round. Bruin scored two goals and Boniek Garcia tallied the third as the Dynamo rolled to a 3-0 win in the first postseason meeting between the clubs.
In the 2013 regular season, the home team won all three meetings. Montreal secured 2-0 and 5-0 home wins before the Dynamo registered a 1-0 win at BBVA Compass Stadium in the final regular season encounter last October.
The Dynamo set several milestones in Saturday's 4-0 win over New England. Houston led 3-0 after only 23 minutes for its fastest 3-0 lead in team history. Bruin scored two goals in the first 13 minutes for his seventh career multi-goal game and now has 33 career goals in all competitions, third most in club history after passing Dwayne De Rosario (32). Additionally, Cummings scored the fourth goal of the night for his 40th career MLS goal and Tally Hall recorded the shutout for his 40th career clean sheet in all competitions with the Dynamo.
The Impact will be without forward Marco Di Vaio and midfielder Andres Romero, both suspended for Saturday's game after an altercation in the 3-0 Dynamo playoff win last October. Di Vaio scored 20 goals last season to lead the Impact.
Montreal opens 2014 under new head coach Frank Klopas, the former head coach of the Chicago Fire. The Impact lost two veterans in the offseason - Alessandro Nesta, the legendary Italian center back who retired and joined the front office, and captain Davy Arnaud, who was traded to D.C. United. The club returns Brazilian playmaker Felipe Martins (five goals, eight assists in 2013), Justin Mapp (eight assists), Argentine Designated Player and central midfielder Hernan Bernardello and new captain and hometown midfielder Patrice Bernier (four goals, eight assists in 2013).
Following Saturday's game, the Dynamo will have next weekend off from MLS play before resuming the campaign on Saturday, March 29 with a road game against the Vancouver Whitecaps.
