SOUTHAVEN, Miss. -- The Knoxville Ice Bears (18-11-3) jumped out to a three-goal lead and never looked back as the Mississippi RiverKings (14-15-5) dropped their third straight in a 4-3 loss in Knoxville.

The Ice Bears struck first late in the first period. Brett Valliquette's shot squeaked through the pads of Matthew Krahn with two minutes remaining in the third to put Knoxville up by one heading into the first intermission.

Knoxville found the back of the back of the net just 24 seconds into the second period. Eric Satim redirected a Tyler Fernandez pass over the glove of Krahn to put to the ice Bears up by two. Fernandez picked up a goal of his own at the 15:21 mark of the second when his shot from the top of the circle beat Krahn glove side to put Knoxville up by three.

But the RiverKings battled back with two goals in 45 seconds late in the second. Matt Whitehead picked up a John Carlson rebound and buried it past a sprawled-out Conner Toomey to bring the 'Kings within two. Seconds later, Chris Campanale pushed the puck past Toomey, collecting his first goal as a member of the RiverKings as the visitors entered the second intermission trailing 3-2.

With the two teams skating four aside, Steve Wiedler weaved his way through the neutral zone and beat Krahn five-hole to put Knoxville ahead by two at the 4:58 mark of the second. The RiverKings cut the deficit to one when Kyle Lunadale's slap shot found the back of the net with 9:05 remaining in the third, but the 'Kings could not pull out the comeback, as they fell to the Ice Bears 4-3.

Matthew Krahn (8-9-2) stopped 24 of 28 shots against in the loss. Connor Toomey (12-5-1) turned aside 30 of 33 shots against in the victory.

The RiverKings hit the ice on Friday, January 25 in Huntsville against the Havoc at 7:30 p.m. with all the action airing live on Sports 56, 87.7 FM and the America One Sports Network. The 'Kings return home the next night for Belhaven University Pack the House Night. Tickets for the game are $5 off with $4 of every ticket going to the United Way of the Mid-South.
