Augusta Wins in Shootout Over

Huntsville, AL-Alex Morton scored the clinching goal in a shootout, and the Augusta RiverHawks picked up the extra point in a 2-1 (3-2 SO) win over the Huntsville Havoc.

The shootout featured 10 attempts between both teams. Huntsville's shootout goals were scored by Stuart Stefan and Brett Liscomb. In addition to the clincher, Augusta got shootout goals from Jason Price and Casey Mignone.

The RiverHawks were led by goalie Robbie Moss, who finished with 40 saves while only allowing one goal. Moss managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.8 prior to the game.

Augusta forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up seven minors and two majors for 34 minutes in penalty time. The RiverHawks surpassed its season average of 21.0 penalty minutes per game. Augusta's offense was clicking better than usual and put 39 shots on goal during the game, better than the 16.7 shots per game it averages.

The RiverHawks were helped by Taylor McReynolds, who registered one goal. McReynolds scored 19:03 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Augusta. Curtis Megginson picked up the assist.

The Havoc excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Huntsville's offense rang up 41 shots on Augusta's net.

The Havoc were led by Liscomb, who scored the team's only goal. Liscomb scored on the power play 14:33 into the third period to make the score 1-1. Huntsville had taken the advantage when the RiverHawks' Drew Baker got sent off for slashing. Aaron McGill assisted on the tally.

Augusta ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Matt Auffrey was ejected from the game. Dan McWhinney made 37 saves for the Havoc on 38 shots. Huntsville totaled 19 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major and went 1-for-5 on the power play.

The RiverHawks will be on the road until February 16. Their next contest is coming up on January 20 as the Team finishes up this weekend's road trip in Columbus. Fans can watch the road games live at Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta.
