MISSOULA, MONT - Four runs in the first two innings paced the Idaho Falls (21-16) offense Monday night as the Chukars defeated the Missoula Osprey (18-19) from Ogren Park Allegiance Field.
The Chukars posted a run in the first inning when Tyler James led the game off with a walk against Osprey starter Wilfry Cruz (4-1). James stole second and scored on a base hit from Offerman Collado to plate the first run of the game.
In the second, the Idaho Falls offense poured in three more runs, courtesy of a two-run home run from Jose Caraballo and a wild pitch from Cruz to score the fourth run of the game.
Missoula fought back in the fourth with two runs as Buddy Kennedy ripped a one-out triple to get the offense started. Zack Shannon doubled home Kennedy while William Gorman laced a triple of his own, scoring Shannon and making it a 4-2 game.
Idaho Falls quickly countered with two more runs in the fifth as Reed Rohlman singled home a pair of runs to push the lead 6-2. Missoula plated its final run in the sixth when Nick Dalesandro doubled home Jesus Marriaga, who singled to start the inning. The Chukars crossed home plate once in each the eighth and ninth innings to seal an 8-3 victory.
Cruz is tagged with his first loss of the season as J.C. Cloney (7-0) earned the win for the Chukars. The lefty tossed 6.2 innings of three-run baseball. Robert Garcia corralled his third save of the season after two and a third innings of relief work.
Marriaga, Shannon, and Jesus Munoz each finished with two hits for the Osprey.
