Traverse City Beach Bums News Release

TRAVERSE CITY, MI - The Traverse City Beach Bums(31-33) once again put themselves into too large of a deficit to recover as they fall to the Washington Wild Things(35-30) by a final score of 9-4.

For the second straight night, Washington took an early 2-0 lead after the first. Tonight, it was an RBI single by Mike Hill and Roman Collins scoring on a passed ball. They added a run in the second when Collins singled in a run to make it 3-0. In the fourth, Brett Marr scored on a passed ball, adding to the Bums' deficit.

Washington broke the game open in the sixth, sending nine men to the plate. James Harris hit an RBI then Roman Collins drove in two with a double. After Reydel Medina knocked in a run on a sacrifice fly, Hector Roa hit an RBI single to left, giving the Wild Things a 9-0 lead. The Beach Bums picked up their first run in the eighth as Isaac Benard and Will Kengor singled, then Benard scored on a double play.

The Beach Bums tried to rally in the ninth inning but the Washington lead was just too great. Connor Oliver rocked a one out triple to deep center field to start the pressure. Ryan Kemp walked putting runner on the corners. Alec Olund hit a grounder to third but Hill's throw to second was too hard to handle, allowing Oliver to score. Two batters later, Benard walked to load the bases with two outs. Down to his last strike, Will Kengor drove in two with a single but that was the last of the offense.

Levi MaVorhis had a successful Frontier League debut picking up the win in a six inning effort. He allowed just six hits and a walk while fanning five. Matt Murphy suffered the loss to fall to 3-2. He gave up four runs on eight hits and two walks in five innings. Zach Strecker came in with the bases loaded and two out to get the final out for his 15th save of the season.
