Early Runs Boost Biscuits to 6-1 Win over Suns

MONTGOMERY, AL - The Montgomery Biscuits (20-18, 55-53) set the tone with three first inning runs and pulled away with a 6-1 victory over the Jacksonville Suns (23-15, 59-49) on Monday night from Montgomery Riverwalk Stadium.

Albert Suarez (W, 2-2) collected the win, allowing just one unearned run on four hits in five innings of work, ending with three strikeouts and three walks in his winning effort.

Robert Morey (L, 2-2) was dealt the loss for Jacksonville, surrendering five runs (all earned) on 10 hits while walking three batters and striking out a pair of Biscuits in five-plus innings on Monday night.

Jheyson Manzueta allowed a run (earned) on four hits and picked up a pair of strikeouts in his two innings.

James Nygren finished with a strikeout and a walk in his hitless bottom of the eighth inning.

The Biscuits hopped on the scoreboard immediately in the first inning, batting around and scoring three times altogether. Kes Carter (HR, 3) started off the inning with a homer to right, and the Biscuits added two more on Jeff Malm's two-out, two-run single to give Montgomery a 3-0 lead after the first inning of play.

Jacksonville countered with one run in the next half inning to trim Montgomery's lead to two. Ryan Rieger scored on Terrence Dayleg's RBI force out to make it a 3-1 Biscuits lead in the top of the second inning.

The Biscuits furthered their lead by scoring twice in the bottom of the sixth. A Jake DePew RBI single and a Willie Argo RBI bunt single extended Montgomery's lead to 5-1 after six innings of play.

Montgomery grabbed its final run of the game in the bottom of the seventh, when Jeff Malm drove in Cameron Seitzer with a RBI double to make it a 6-1 Biscuits lead.

The Suns now hold a 2-1 lead in the series after Monday night's loss.

The Suns and Biscuits will be back at it on Tuesday, with first pitch set for 7:05 p.m. CT (8:05 p.m. ET). The Suns will start left-hander Justin Nicolino (8-3, 3.16) while the Biscuits will send out a lefty of their own in Grayson Garvin (0-4, 3.72).
