M-Braves Take 10th Straight from Pensacola

PEARL, MS -- The Mississippi Braves used a three-run fifth to defeat the Pensacola Blue Wahoos 4-3 at Trustmark Park Tuesday night. The win marks the Braves 10th straight victory against Pensacola and fourth of the series. Wednesday's series finale is set for 7:00 PM.

Jose Peraza led the Braves (22-17, 61-47) offensively with a 3-for-4 night at the plate. Mississippi score four runs on six hits while Pensacola (14-25, 45-64) plated three runs on nine hits. Peraza scored two runs and stole a base. Braeden Schlehuber added two hits and two RBI.

Pensacola took a 1-0 lead in the first. Yorman Rodriguez and Travis Mattair both singled to get things started. Kyle Wadrop followed with a base hit to center, driving home Rodriguez for the game's first run.

The M-Braves responded in the bottom of the first, tying the game at 1-1. Peraza tripled and Kyle Kubitza walked. Peraza then came in to score on a passed ball.

Ryan Wright led off the top of the third with a double to center field. He came in to score on Mattair's double up the middle, extending the Blue Wahoos' lead to 2-1.

In the bottom of the fifth, Peraza singled and stole second. Kyle Wren drew a walk and both runners later advanced on a wild pitch. Cedric Hunter drew another walk to load the bases before another wild pitch allowed Peraza to score the tying run. David Rohm walked to reload the bases with two outs. Schlehuber then delivered a two-run single to put the Braves out front 4-2.

Mattair reached on a force out to start the Pensacola sixth. He came around to score on Waldrop's double to center field, cutting the Braves lead to 4-3.

Ryan Weber (4-4) limited the Blue Wahoos to three earned runs on eight hits while fanning four in six innings of work to pick up the win. Brandon Cunniff (H, 7) worked two scoreless innings in relief. Ryan Kelly (S, 2) came on in the ninth to nail down the save.

Robert Stephenson (5-7) gave up four runs, three earned, on three hits and seven walks. He struck out six batters in 4.2 innings pitched.

In Wednesday's series finale, the M-Braves send right-hander Mitch Atkins (5-0, 4.65) to the hill. The Blue Wahoos counter with righty Michael Lorenzen (4-5, 2.70). First pitch is slated for 7:00 PM. Gates open at 6:00 PM.
