Visalia Rawhide News Release

VISALIA, CA - Visalia fell behind early to Stockton and couldn't catch up because of a strong start from Ports right-hander Brian Howard. Despite nine hits, the Rawhide mustered just two runs and fell in the series opener, 6-2.

Stockton (19-13) plated a pair of runs, only one of which was earned, in the first inning off of Visalia starter Bo Takahashi (L, 3-2) and never looked back. The Ports struck again in each of the next three innings to plate six runs off of Takahashi, who fell to 1-2 against Stockton in his career.

Visalia (18-14) received strong offensive nights from Camden Duzenack and Dominic Miroglio, who provided five of the nine Rawhide hits. Duzenack finished with three hits, one of which was a double, and two runs scored while Miroglio extended his hitting streak to seven games with a pair of doubles and a RBI.

Howard (W, 3-2) surrendered two runs on six hits while striking out six Rawhide hitters and walking none over a season-best six innings. The Ports bullpen held the Rawhide scoreless despite Visalia putting runners on the bases in each of the last three frames.

Jonah Heim pushed his California League-best hitting streak to 15 games by racking up two doubles and a home run while driving in four of the six Ports runs. Heim's homer rang off the top of the scoreboard in right in the third inning.

The Rawhide have now fallen in each of their last three games, their longest such streak this season, and have been outscored 19-9 over the span.

The Rawhide will look to right the ship tomorrow afternoon with some day baseball from Rawhide Ballpark, with first pitch at 1 PM. The Rawhide will send Cal League ERA leader RHP Emilio Vargas (2-0, 1.23) to the hill against Stockton RHP Matt Milburn (1-2, 5.81). Tickets are still available on rawhidebaseball.com.
