
Early Offense Leads Voyagers over Orem

Great Falls, MT - The Voyagers received some timely hitting and a quality start to fuel a 6-3 series-clinching victory over Orem Thursday night at Centene Stadium.
Great Falls (16-11) sits in first place in the Pioneer League North, and is two games up on both Helena and Missoula after winning the first three games of the series with Orem. The Voyagers are a season-high five games over .500. Great Falls improved to 12-3 at home. Orem (8-19) fell to 3-11 on the road. The Owlz have lost six of their last eight games.
Adam McGinnis opened the scoring for the Voyagers in the bottom of the 2nd with a two-out, solo home run deep to left that traveled 400 feet. It was the fourth big fly of the season for McGinnis. Great Falls made it 4-0 with a three-run 3rd. Ian Dawkins led off with a double, and later scored on a Corey Zangari sacrifice fly. Logan Sowers walked and scored on a double by Alex Destino. Romy Gonzalez brought in Destino with an RBI single.
After Orem plated a run in the top of the 5th, Great Falls grabbed it back with a two-out rally. Alex Destino singled to center. Romy Gonzalez walked. Amado Nunez made it 5-1 with an RBI single lined into right-center.
The Owlz scored twice in the 6th, and the Voyagers finished the scoring with a single mark in the 8th on an RBI single by Ian Dawkins that scored Travis Moniot. Moniot reached with a one-out base hit to center.
Chris Comito registered his first quality start of the season for Great Falls. Comito (2-3) worked six innings and gave up three runs (one earned) on just four hits with a season-high six strikeouts and two walks. Cole Duensing took the loss for Orem. Duensing (0-4) lasted four innings and surrendered four earned runs on four hits with two strikeouts and four walks. Bennett Sousa notched his fourth save with one strikeout and one hit allowed in the 9th.
The Voyagers outhit Orem 10-to-5. Ian Dawkins led the way with three hits, including a double and an RBI. Alex Destino and Romy Gonzalez both collected two hits. Logan Sowers walked twice to push his on-base streak to 25 consecutive games.
Great Falls continues its seven-game home stand with the series finale against Orem Friday night at Centene Stadium. First pitch is set for 7 o'clock.
