Early Miscues Even Series against Kelowna

KELOWNA, BC - The Yakima Valley Pippins fell behind 6-0 after three innings, never able to slow down the Kelowna Falcons on Thursday night, eventually losing 8-1 at Elks Stadium.

Yakima Valley starter Jens Jensen (Central Washington) allowed six runs, three earned, over five innings of work. The Pippins (24-17, 9-5) scored their first run of the night in the 6th inning as Trevor Achenbach (Oklahoma Wesleyan) delivered an RBI double, scoring Mikey Filia (UC Irvine) from first base.

After five innings from Jensen, Connor Lau (Central Washington) entered out of the bullpen for one scoreless innings giving way for Josh Rios (Cal State Fullerton) allowing two runs on one hit while Zach Haggett (Central Washington) pitched a scoreless 9th inning.

Trailing 8-1 in the 9th inning, Jay Schuyler (San Diego) posted his second hit of the night, his team-leading 12 multi-hit game of the season. Freddy Smith (Cal State Northridge) singled in the 4th inning, extending his hitting streak to five games.

West Coast League All-Star Zach Draper (College of Idaho) will start on Friday night as the Pippins battle in the rubber match. Fans can listen to the action live on 1460 ESPN Yakima, the official home for Yakima Valley Pippins Baseball.
