Shane Hanon changed the scoreboard for good in the fifth inning.

Literally.

Hanon's three run home run off the scoreboard propelled the Bellingham Bells (21-16) to a 5-3 win Wednesday night over the Victoria HarborCats (28-9).

Bellingham opened the scoring in the fourth. Chase Strumpf began the one out rally with a double. Strumpf came around to score on a David Banuelos RBI triple. Banuelos went 2 for 4 with a triple, a double and RBI. Bellingham led 1-0 heading to the bottom half of the fourth.

Bellingham exploded for three runs in the fifth. Austin Shenton singled and moved to second on a Gunnar Schubert single. After Shenton was thrown out trying to score on a Andru Cardenas single, Hanon strode to the plate with runners on first and second and two outs. Hanon then crushed a three run long ball to put the Bells in front for good. Hanon's three run bomb put Bellingham in front 4-0 after four and half innings.

Austin Shenton began the threat in the seventh with his third hit of the day. Schubert sacrificed him over to second and Shenton scored his second run of the day when Hanon doubled into the left centerfield gap. Hanon finished the day 2 for 4 with two extra base hits and 4 RBIs. Bellingham led 5-2 at stretch time in Victoria.

Nick Silva (2-1) earned his third start of the summer, and the University of Maine product tossed five and one thirds innings of two run baseball to earn his second win as a Bell. Silva worked out of a bases loaded and nobody out jam in the fifth inning by allowing only one run to cross. Jeff Gelinas recorded the second out of the sixth and then gave way to Bellingham native Josh Zavisubin, who tossed an inning and a third. Jared Horn fanned one and gave up an unearned run in the eighth. And Sam Hellinger continued his dominance in the month of July, retiring the side 1-2-3 for his seventh straight outing where he has not allowed a base runner. Hellinger has not given up a hit in the month so far.

The Bells return to the field against the Victoria HarborCats tomorrow night. First pitch will be thrown a 7:05, with pre-game coverage starting at 6:35 with Tom Prizeman on mixlr.com/bellinghambells.
