STOCKTON, Calif. - The Visalia Rawhide hit the first two pitches of the game out of the ballpark and never looked back on Saturday night. Visalia got back-to-back home runs from Luis Lara and Marcus Wilson on the first two pitches of the contest thrown by Stockton Ports starter Dustin Hurlbutt (1-2) on their way to handing the Ports a 4-0 shutout loss, Stockton's eighth shutout loss of the season.

After Hurlbutt allowed the back-to-back homers to open the contest he went on to retire three consecutive batters including a pair of strikeouts. In the second, Hurlbutt walked Mark Karaviotis with one out and Luis Silverio came up next and reached on an error committed by Kevin Merrell that put runners at the corners with one out. Raymel Flores grounded out to score Karaviotis to make it 3-0.

Hurlbutt would suffer the loss, going 5.1 innings and allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits while striking out four.

Visalia starter Emilio Vargas (5-1), the California League ERA leader, continued his dominance versus Stockton this season. Vargas tossed six scoreless innings and scattered four hits while walking two and striking out six. He earned the victory and has now pitched 23.1 scoreless innings versus the Ports on the season.

Junior Garcia pitched a scoreless seventh inning for the Rawhide while Tyler Mark closed out the game with two scoreless frames.

The Rawhide added a run in the seventh inning versus Andrew Tomasovich as Karaviotis drew a leadoff walk and scored on a two-out RBI single by Lara to make it 4-0. It was the only run allowed by Tomasovich in an inning-and-two-thirds of work.

The Ports will try and avoid begin swept for the first time this season when they play the finale of their three-game series with Visalia on Sunday. Parker Dunshee (5-2, 2.56 ERA) makes the start for Stockton, opposed by Visalia right-hander Tyler Keele (0-1, 6.43 ERA). First pitch is set for 2:09 p.m. PDT.
