Charlotte Independence News Release
Charlotte, NC - The Charlotte Eagles (4-1-1, 13 pts) hit the road for the second time this week as they travel to Greensboro for a match on Saturday, June 10th. Charlotte earned a 1-1 draw with the Wilmington Hammerheads on Wednesday night at UNCW Soccer Stadium thanks to a Curren Page 85th goal.
The Hammerheads struck first on the rainy Wednesday night, as Daniel Escobar scored in the 44th minute. After some second half adjustments and substitutes, the Eagles turned the pressure up looking for the equalizer. Page picked up the ball in the Hammerheads half of the field before letting a right-footed shot rip from 25 yards out. Charlotte pressed for the go-ahead goal but couldn't find it, as the match ended 1-1.
The Carolina Dynamo currently sit at 7th in the division with 4 points and a 1-3-1 record. The Dynamo hosted NCFC U23 on Saturday, June 3rd and played them to a 1-1 draw. Wake Forest Forward Jon Bakero is currently leading the team in goals with three of them in his three games played. He scored in the 65th minute against NCFC U23 to equalize and earn the hosts a point.
Charlotte hosted the Dynamo on May 20th and came away with a 3-1 win. The two teams will meet a third time at Charlotte Christian on Tuesday, July 11th to round out the season series.
Kelvin Omondi currently leads both the Eagles and the PDL in goals scored with seven in six games played. Ryan Williams also leads the team and is tied for the league lead in assists with four in six games.
