Cape Breton Eagles News Release

NOTES FROM THE GAMES

- Two goals 62 seconds into the third period broke a 3-3 tie as the Cape Breton Eagles skated to a 5-3 victory over the Halifax Mooseheads in front of over 4300 fans in Sydney on Friday night.

- Olivier Houde scored both goals in the first period for the Eagles, Luke Patterson tied the game in the second period, while Cam MacDonald & Charles-Antoine Lavallée registered the quick third period goals.

- Jakob Milota stopped 29 of 30 shots in the win, while Mathis Rousseau allowed five goals on 29 shots in the loss.

Goals came early in the game- both teams took leads, and let leads slip away, in the first 10:35 of the game. Markus Vidicek started the scoring with a shot through a screen for Halifax at the 3:31 mark.

The Mooseheads lead lasted just 13 seconds before Houde countered, and his second of the night gave the Eagles the lead. However, Halifax's received offense from the defense to take the lead. After Owen Phillips scored to knot the score at two, Brady Schultz converted on the only power play of the first 20 minutes to give Halifax a 3-2 lead.

As the physicality ramped up throughout the night, things became quieter on the scoresheet- but not before a quick Patterson goal just 84 seconds into the second period. The score was locked at three a piece heading into the third period.

The Eagles took advantage of some open ice to start the third period- a four on three power play had just turned to a five on four when the Eagles took advantage of numbers and Cam MacDonald put the go ahead goal past Rousseau. Lavallée's insurance marker came 42 seconds later. Holding a two goal lead, the Eagles clamped down, limiting Halifax to seven shots and not allowing the Mooseheads an opportunity to lift goaltender Rousseau.

The Eagles will next take to the ice for a special holiday Monday afternoon game in Saint John! Puck drop is 2 PM . The game is available for purchase on https://shorturl.at/dsxyD and you can also hear all the action on 1270 AM CJCB or online at www.cjcbradio.com
