Eagles Take Control with 6-2 Win Over Blazers

LOVELAND, Colo.- The Colorado Eagles took a 3-1 lead in their best-of-seven series Wednesday night by beating the Oklahoma City Blazers 6-2 at the Budweiser Events Center. Greg Pankewicz had two goals and an assist and Marco Emond stopped 30 of 32 shots for his playoff-leading fifth win of the playoffs. The Eagles have now scored six or more goals in four of their five home games in the playoffs, all four have been Eagles wins. Colorado also scored four goals in the final period of play where they have outscored their opponents 24-9 in the 2007 playoffs. Game five of the Northern Conference Semi-Finals is Friday night at the Budweiser Events Center starting at 7:05 p.m. The game will be televised by Altitude Sports & Entertainment.

The Eagles and Blazers skated to a scoreless first period. It marked the first time the Eagles have had a scoreless first period in the 2007 playoffs. Colorado was whistled for three more penalties in the period, but they were able to kill all of the Blazers power play opportunities. The teams were even in shots after one period at eight each.

AJ MacLean got the Blazers on the board first at the 5:32 mark of the second period. He tipped in a Dallas Flaman shot over the blocker of Eagles' goaltender Marco Emond. Greg Pankewicz tied the game at one when he let a slapshot loose that was blocked by a sliding defender, but Pankewicz reared back again and slapped a shot over the shoulder of Blazers' goaltender Sebastien Centomo. It was a power play goal and Brad Williamson had his first of three assists on the night. Riley Nelson made it a 2-1 game in favor of the Eagles with just 1:50 remaining in the period on assists from Greg Pankewicz and Brad Williamson. The Eagles took the lead into the second intermission and were outshooting the Blazers 21-18.

Colorado took over in the third period as they have for much of the playoffs. The Eagles scored four goals in the final period where they have now outscored their opponents 24-9 during the playoffs. Greg Pankewicz score his second goal of the game and his third point when he flicked a backhand far post that beat Centomo. Riley Nelson made it a 4-1 game on a slapshot from the top of the right circle for his second goal of the game, and the Eagles second power play goal. At the 9:46 mark of the period, Scott Polaski came in on a breakaway and wristed a shot blocker side for his second goal of the playoffs. The Eagles scored their sixth and final goal of the game on Fraser Filipic's first goal of the playoffs when he took an Ed McGrane faceoff and snapped it past Centomo. Just 21 seconds later, Joe Dustin scored a power play goal to make it a 6-2 score. The Eagles finished 2-6 on the power play and killed six of seven Blazers chances and outshot Oklahoma City 32-31 in the game. Final score: Eagles 6 - Blazers 2.
