Riverkings Take 2-0 Lead Into Game Three Tomorrow Night

Mississippi RiverKings News Release

SOUTHAVEN, MS --- The Memphis RiverKings and Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs resume their Northern Conference Semifinal series with game three this Thursday night at 7:05 at the DeSoto Civic Center.

The RiverKings are coming home after doing something last weekend that has happened only once before in the 15 year history of the Central Hockey League playoffs. The RiverKings opened the best-of-seven series versus the Mudbugs with road wins in games one and two. The only other team to do that in a seven game series was the Oklahoma City Blazers, who accomplished the feat in the 2001 Ray Miron Cup Finals against the Columbus Cottonmouths on their way to a 4-2 series win.

The RiverKings' 4-3 and 4-1 wins at the CenturyTel Center marked the first time this season that the regular season champion Mudbugs had been beaten in back to back games on their home ice. During the regular season, Bossier-Shreveport won five of the six meetings between the clubs in Bossier City. The RiverKings were 3-1-1 when the teams played this season at the DCC.

Looking back in history, the RiverKings are 3-0 all-time in playoff series when taking a two games to none lead. One of those was the 2002 Northern Conference Finals when the RiverKings jumped ahead of the Mudbugs on their way to 4-3 series win and an eventual President's Cup title.

The RiverKings used a physical and intense team defense to set the tone in games one and two. Goalie Kevin Schieve complimented those efforts with strong performances both nights, stopping a combined 52 shots and winning in his first two professional postseason starts.

Veterans Derek Landmesser and Louis Dumont both had big weekends on the offensive side. Landmesser scored three goals and added an assist in the two games while Dumont had a combined two goals and three assists, including the game winner on Sunday. Another highlight was rookie Tyler McGregor's goal and two assists on Sunday.

Phil Aucoin, who has notched at least one point in eight of the nine postseason games so far, continues to lead the RiverKings with 10 assists and 13 points. Ryan Campbell paces the club with six postseason goals.

Following Thursday's game three, game four is set for Saturday night at the DCC at 7:05. If necessary, game five will be back in Bossier City on Sunday at 6:05.
