LOVELAND, CO. - Colorado rallied from a 3-0 deficit to force overtime, but Greenville forward Joe Basaraba would bury the game-winner 2:28 into the extra session to give the Swamp Rabbits the 4-3 win. By forcing overtime, the Eagles have now collected points in the standings in six straight contests.
Greenville scored the game's first goal just 1:45 into the contest when defenseman Brenden Kotyk sent a slapshot from the blue line into the back of the net to give the Swamp Rabbits the 1-0 edge.
After killing off a 5-on-3 power play, Greenville would earn its first man-advantage and they would seize the opportunity. Defenseman Sergey Zborovskiy snagged a puck between the circles and snapped it past Eagles goaltender Joe Cannata to extend the Swamp Rabbits lead to 2-0 with 10 minutes to play in the opening frame.
Colorado's deficit would grow in the second period when forward Caleb Herbert skated through the slot and fired a wrister from the right circle that would light the lamp and give Greenville a 3-0 advantage at the 9:01 mark of the middle stanza.
A tenacious effort led to the Eagles first goal of the game, as forward Jesse Mychan would track down a rebound on top of the crease and sweep the puck into the net to trim the Swamp Rabbit's lead to 3-1 with 3:48 remaining in the period. Colorado would finish the second period with 18 shots on net, while holding Greenville to just eight shots on goal.
The Eagles would waste little time hopping back on the scoreboard to start the third period, as forward Joey Ratelle would snag a puck in neutral ice, springing him for a rush down the right wing boards before lighting the lamp with a wrist shot from the right circle to cut the Swamp Rabbits lead to 3-2, just 45 seconds into the final frame.
With less than six minutes remaining in regulation, Colorado would take advantage of a 5-on-3 power play when defenseman Matt Register stepped into a slapshot from the top of the circle, beating Rimmer and knotting the game at 3-3.
The goal would ultimately force a sudden-death overtime and it would be Basaraba who would fire a wrister from between the circles that would beat Cannata and give the Swamp Rabbits the 4-3 victory at the 2:28 mark of OT.
Colorado put up a season-high 52 shots on goal in the contest, including a season-high 22 shots in the third period. The Eagles finished the night 1-for-5 on the power play, while Greenville scored one goal on its three power-play opportunities.
The Eagles return to action on Saturday, November 25th at 7:05pm when they face the Greenville Swamp Rabbits at the Budweiser Events Center.
Season tickets for the 2017-18 season are on-sale now and can be reserved with a $100 deposit per seat by calling the Eagles ticket office at 970-686-SHOT (7468).
