Thunder Slips Past Mallards in Overtime

MOLINE, Ill. - Mark MacMillan's second goal of the game gave the Wichita Thunder (12-2-2) a 3-2 overtime victory over t he host Quad City Mallards (6-8-1) Friday night.

McMillan charged into the crowded Mallard goalmouth to score the game winner 37 seconds into sudden death.

The Mallards, who did earn one point, twice took the lead in regulation. Josh MacDonald opened the scoring by racing in on goal and hoisting a backhander home at 13:43 of the first period. MacMillan tied the game at one from close range with just 35 seconds left in the first.

The Mallards were on the power play when Alexander Kuqali jammed in MacDonald's goalmouth feed at 5:57 of the second period but the Thunder would again respond, this time with Istvan Sofron's one timer from the slot at 13:33 of the second.

The Mallards and Thunder meet again tomorrow night in Wichita. The Mallards next play at home Wednesday night, December 20 at 6:35 p.m. against the Fort Wayne Komets. Fans can enjoy $1 10-ounce beers from TaxSlayer Center concession stands during all Mallards Wednesday home games this season.
