Austin Ice Bats News Release

The Colorado Eagles opened up a close game with four unanswered goals in the second and third periods en route to a 6-2 win over the Austin Ice Bats Friday night at the Travis County Expo Center. The loss trimmed the Ice Bats' lead in the Southern Conference playoff race. Colorado opened up a 2-0 first period lead on a multiple rebound goal from Fraser Filipic and a Scott Polaski goal, scored off a turnover deep in the Ice Bats zone. Bats forward Aaron Davis cut the lead in half, scoring a power play goal with just two seconds left in the period. But the Eagles opened up the game with goals 22 seconds apart midway through the second, scored by Filipic and Sean Robertson. Nick Parillo's shorthanded breakaway goal midway through the third and Polaski's second score at 14:05 put it away. Austin forward Julian Smith tipped home Jonathan Jolette's shot for a power play goal with 1:31 remaining, but it was too little, too late. Polaski led scoring with four points, while Filipic and Parillo had three points each. The game turned a little nasty down the stretch, with four altercations over the final seven minutes. The Ice Bats (23-22-3) dropped their second straight game and are now tied with Amarillo for the two wild card spots in the Southern Conference. The teams are just two points ahead of Rio Grande Valley. After a Saturday game at Corpus Christi, the Ice Bats return home to face division-leading Laredo Sunday. Free youth jerseys go to the first 1,000 fans age 13 and under, and a free post-game skate with the Ice Bats players follows the 4pm contest.
