Bucks Fall 2-1 At Odessa In Shootout

ODESSA, Texas - The Laredo Bucks scored a late goal to pick up a standings point as they fell 2-1 in a shootout in Odessa on Friday night in front of 2,717 fans at the Ector County Coliseum in a matchup of Southern Conference division leaders. The Bucks stretched their lead in the Southeast Division to 18 points as Austin lost to Colorado. Laredo is 31-12-5 with a Southeast Division and Southern Conference best 67 points. The Bucks travel to Amarillo on Saturday and Austin on Sunday. The Bucks out shot the Jackalopes 9-6 in the first period, but neither team was able to score.

Laredo carried the play in the second period as they out shot the Jackalopes 15-7, but once again neither team could score.

In the third period Odessa scored first. On a power play forward Dominic Leveille slipped a beautiful drop pass to cutting forward Mike Rutter who went top shelf with a wrist shot for the first goal of the game at 13:32. The Bucks came back 2:17 later and tied it on a power play chance of their own. Defenseman Paul Elliott cut down the left wing, circled in behind the net and then out the right side where he turned and fired home a wrist shot for his fourth goal of the season at 15:49.

The game remained tied and went to overtime where the Bucks survived an Odessa power play chance and sent the game to a shootout. In the shootout Odessa scored on two of four chances, while the Bucks managed just one goal on five tries. FINAL SCORE Odessa 2, Laredo 1 in a shootout.

Dov Grumet-Morris was outstanding, stopping 23 of 24 thru regulation and overtime. He took the shootout loss to fall to 11-4-2. Mike Gorman was equally as outstanding as he stopped 34 of 35 thru regulation and overtime to get the win and improve to 20-10-2. Laredo out shot Odessa 35-25. Laredo was 1-5 on the power play while the Jackalopes were 1-7.
